Scholarship Recipient Impact Testimonials

My name is Jordan Reid, and I proudly graduated from Albert Einstein High School, Class of 2016. Looking back on my journey, I can say without a doubt that the scholarships I received changed the trajectory of my life — and I hope my story encourages you to keep pushing forward, no matter where you start.

In 2016, I was honored to receive the Jack Keller Legacy Scholarship, which supported me in continuing my athletic career in basketball. More recently, I received the Joseph Monte Scholarship in 2023, which helped fund my graduate education. These opportunities were more than just financial assistance — they were lifelines that opened doors I never imagined I could walk through.

The Jack Keller Legacy scholarship helped me achieve my undergraduate degree, which ultimately gave me the opportunity to play basketball professionally overseas in Europe.

Because of the Monte Scholarship, I earned my MBA, an accomplishment that has unlocked countless doors in my career and allowed me to build lasting relationships and a network of support. The impact of these scholarships continues to shape my future — and I am forever grateful.

After earning my MBA as a first-generation graduate student, my next goal is to pursue a doctorate. And with continued determination and the support of these generous opportunities, I will soon be the first in my family to earn a doctoral degree.

When I first graduated, my short-term goal was simple: find a finance job where I could continue learning and growing. But my long-term goals have always been bigger than myself. I want to show kids from my community — kids just like you — that while sports may be a great outlet, they aren’t the only path to success. There is power in knowledge, and there is pride in paving a new way.

I aim to be a mentor, a guide, and a presence in the lives of young people who need to know they’re not alone. If my journey teaches you anything, let it be this: you are capable of achieving greatness, and with the right support, the possibilities are endless.

Believe in your dreams. Take the opportunities when they come. And when it's your turn, reach back and lift someone else up.

With gratitude and hope,

Jordan Reid
AEHS Class of 2016

Dear AEHS Athletic Hall of Fame and Alumni Association,

I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for the Jack Keller Legacy Award scholarship that I received in 2009. This scholarship made a significant impact on me, not only athletically and academically, but also mentally. I say that because although the gift may seem small in amount in proportion to college costs, the belief a recipient feels is enormous. A belief that shows them there is a community of people that are encouraging, cheering, and lifting them up from the sidelines. Very few of us ever go on to have decorated college or professional careers in the sport we played in high school, but all of us move forward in life in need of community that can challenge and champion us.

Receiving the Jack Keller Legacy Award scholarship was more than just a financial relief my first semester at the University of Maryland. It was an affirmation of my hard work and dedication in wrestling, yes, but it was also an affirmation that hard work is inspirational to those around you. Those small wins along the way become landmarks along our journey that help propel us to the next endeavor and become lessons we leave the generation coming up behind us.

I believe that the scholarships you all work hard to support and deliver have the potential to make an equally profound impact on future recipients. By providing financial assistance, the scholarship empowers students to pursue their educational goals and athetic goals, sure. But they also inspire a generation of young men and women to know that their purssuits aren’t in vain, that there’s a community visible and invisible behind them, and to pass the baton on to the next generation.

I’m a pastor in the Austin, TX area now and I have 3 kids of my own. After 10 years working with teenagers and still coaching sports today, legacy is a big deal for me. Thank you for what you do in creating, leaving, and furthering a legacy in so many young men and women.

Thank you once again for your support and generosity.

Sincerely,

Ricky Echeona
